Our company

Omexom NDT Engineering & Services develops and qualifies automated processes in Non-destructive testing (NDT) and uses them as services in the nuclear field.

The company has been working on the main parts of the primary circuit (steam generator, control rods, vessel, primary pump, pressurizer) and on the exchangers of the secondary circuit for more than fifty years.

On these components, we implement all the Non-destructive inspection techniques and especially the eddy currents, ultrasonic testing, leak testing, visual testing and acoustic emission. We daily accompany our customers in France but we also export our technologies abroad: China, Japan, South Africa, Belgium, U.K, Sweden… on new or in operation equipment.

From the most appropriate technique to the execution of the inspection operations including the development of the process, Omexom NDT Engineering & Services offers its customers Non-destructive testings adapted to their needs.

Our expertise

We develop and qualify Non-destructive inspection processes for all types of nuclear facilities and in all Non-destructive inspection techniques. We use them in service deliveries 24/7/365, in contaminated area in the core of the nuclear power plants and on the main components of the primary circuit and heat exchangers.

The qualification engineering service is composed of a team of high-skilled technicians and engineers. This team brings customized answers to specific problems.

It also provides the link between the conception and the implementer, particularly by training the stakeholders and by supporting the response teams during the industrial implementation of the developed equipment.


It works in accordance with the following codes:

  • RCCM: Rules of conception and building of the mechanical equipment of nuclear islands (pressurized water reactor)
  • RSEM: Rules of supervision in mechanical equipment operation of the nuclear islands
  • ASME: American Society of Mechanical Engineers
  • ENIQ: European Network for Inspection Qualification



Our multidisciplinary technical support intervenes both during the development phase of the inspection process and the inspection operations.

The technical support works in connection with the qualification engineering teams for the development of tooling and robot control, sequence synchronization, data transmission, indication analysis and result processing softwares.


We have our own maintenance department to guarantee the proper functioning of our team and of our performances.

The maintenance department is responsible for:

  • insuring a preventive and curative maintenance of the company equipment (either in its workshops or on its customers’ facilities),
  • the revalidation of the contaminated material in hot workshop.

Multi-skilled, innovative, qualified and attentive teams ensure the inspection of the main components of the primary circuit such as the steam generator, the pressurizer, the vessels, the core instrumentation network, the primary pump, the control rods, the control rod guides, the radial keys of the vessel internals, exchangers…

Eddy current

  • Field of application

Eddy currents are used for the detection of indications in electrically conductive metal parts. The detected indications are always close to the surface and enable to locate indications such as cracks, corrosion… This method can also be used for material sorting, coating thickness measures. It is widely used especially for the detection of defects in exchanger tubes.

  • The principle

This method consists of creating induced currents called eddy currents thanks to a variable magnetic field ( in time and space) using a probe. These currents in turn generate a magnetic field. The variations of electrical conductivity of the magnetic field mean a discontinuity of the material.

Acoustic testing

  • Field of application

The control  by acoustic testing enables to detect leaks and progressive defects (cracks, plastic deformations, corrosion…). This technique of Non-destructive inspection is implemented on simple structures: vessels or bridges and more complex circuits of nuclear power plants.

  • The principle

When a metallic structure is subject to a mechanical stress, any defect likely to follow a process of evolution may release energy in the form of waves. This emission is detected by different sensors to be analysed before identifying the type of source, its volume and its location.

Leak testing

  • Field of application

Leak testing enables to detect leaks on very different equipment such as valves, exchangers or storage tanks.

  • The principle

Leak testing consists of detecting an incoming or an outgoing gas from a capacity. This gas can be air, ammonia, hydrogen, helium or any process gas. The control techniques are various: vacuum global testing, pressure variation testing, sniffling testing… All these tests meet an adapted standardization.

Visual and video inspection

  • Field of application

Visual testing enables to detect visible indications on the surface of the material due to the elaboration, to the transformation or wear. It is often the preamble to an advanced Non-destructive inspection. It is also used for detection and the characterization of deteriorated situations such as the detection of foreign objects.

  • The principle

Visual testing is the most common Non-destructive test. It is often considered as simple and cheap. In reality, this control requires a great technical culture and a good knowledge from the controllers. The very sophisticated receiver used in this process is our eye. It can be fooled by different parameters: lighting, distance and the transmission of information.

Two big visual testing families exist:

  • Direct visual testing using the eye supplemented by means such as magnifying glasses, mirrors,…,
  • Indirect visual testing where the eye inspects images transmitted by devices such as endoscopes, fiberscopes, videoscopes or sometimes remote controlled video cameras in hostile environment situations.


  • Field of application

Ultrasonic testing enables to detect defects in the volume of the material as well as on the surface in some cases. It can be used in a simple way to measure thickness (search for corrosion) or, for example, for the detection of segregations in steel plates. Advanced methods involving the use of angle probes, phased array… enable to detect voids in welds or in geometrically complex work pieces. Most materials can be controlled using this method ( metallic materials, composite materials,…).

  • The principle

Ultrasonic testing is based on the transmission, the reflexion and the absorption of an ultrasonic  wave propagating into the equipment for testing. The emitted wave train reflects on the defect then it comes back to a receiver. The interpretation of the signals enables to spot the flaw and to identify it.
